Our business started as modest wholesale business in the North East in the 1850’s. We’ve grown a lot since then. Today, we’re Ireland’s largest fresh produce business. We operate 13 facilities across Ireland serving retailers, wholesaler and foodservice professional right across the country. Dole Organics is the specialist unit within Dole dedicated to bringing together all of our international businesses to ensure that we can grow, source, pack and market the very best produce from across Europe and beyond. By working together, we can offer security to organic growers and the widest range of the most delicious, consistent organics fruits and vegetables to Irish consumers.
WeGrowOrganic was founded in 2001 by third-generation farmers Thijs Geerse and Wouter Snippe. Covering approximately 400 hectares, they have been growing a wide range of organic products. Their products absorbs extremely high levels of nutrients from the rich polder soil where it is grown.
In 2018, WeGrowOrganic joined forces with OTC Organics to expand markets, create synergies and gain a stronger financial position for investments. In 2021, a joint investment enabled the construction of a new cold storage facility, sorting system, packaging machines, and laser printing capabilities. The new storage offers space for 3.200 t potatoes, 3.500 t onions, 600 t pumpkins, 2.500 t carrots and 1.500 t Beetroot.
Thijs and Wouter transport their products to the consumer as carefully and as quickly as possible and keep the ‘field to fork’ chain as short as possible. They sort, process, pack and sell their products directly from their own farm through a wide European network of buyers. They also handle organic products for fellow growers. 40 producers market 100% of their production through WeGrowOrganic.
We are perfectly situated to grow a wide range of citrus cultivars. Our hot summer days are always tempered with cooling afternoon breezes off the sea. Winters are mild, but with warm days and cold nights, which induce fully coloured fruits with tender flesh. The best lemons in the world are grown at between 30 – 35 degrees N and S. Our valley, at 33 degrees S is perfectly situated for the production of good-quality lemons. An abundance of irrigation water allows us to water our trees when they need it.
We are the world’s first producers of organic seedless lemons.Any fruit that does not meet our strict export standard for external blemishes is sent to our processing plant where we produce premium single-strength frozen juice and essential oils.
Our farms and packhouse are certified organic by the Control Union. All have Globalgap and Nature’s Choice Accreditation. In addition, our packhouse conforms to BRGS (Brand Reputable Compliance Global Standard) certification.
